60th Annual Window Painting

This program is currently unavailable. Click here to view all of our current programs.

All participants and supervising adults are encouraged to wear a mask. It is your responsibility to practice proper hand hygiene and social distancing of at least 6’.  This activity is for grades 3-6 and is offered in the spirit of the season. It could not occur without the help of our local merchants.  Each painter should be mindful of the merchant’s contributions and show their appreciation with good behavior and tasteful paintings.

  • Monday, Oct. 25: Paint will be available for pickup at Colonel Town starting at 4:00.  Group and window assignments will be attached to the bags of paint.

  • Tuesday, Oct. 26: Window painting will be from 3:15-4:15. Judging begins at 4:30.

  • Wednesday, Oct. 27: (Rain date for window painting)

  • Monday, Nov. 1: Windows must be cleaned by 5:00. Winners will be announced at school and on Facebook. Prizes for the winners can be picked up at Colonel Town.

RULES:

  1. Form a group of at least 2 students and no more than 4 students from the same grade who would enjoy painting a window together.

  2. Each member of the group MUST complete a registration form; otherwise, he/she will not be allowed to participate.  Example: if there are 3 members of a group but only 2 turned in forms, there will only be 2 children allowed to paint windows.

  3. Each group must have at least 1 adult supervising their work in progress.  Adults are not allowed to do ANY of the painting/drawing – this is an activity to be completed by children only!!

  4. The paint is sorted in plastic containers, conveniently ready for pick up in bags.  Black, dark gray and dark brown cannot be used because it stains the windows.

  5. You will need a jar of water for cleaning your brushes and changing colors.  You provide your own brushes – cheap, fine line ones work well.  You will need newspaper to spread out on the sidewalk.  Please be careful not to paint on the buildings or sills.

 HELPFUL HINTS:

  1. Begin by drawing an outline using a bar of soap.

  2. Leave a 2” border all around your painting.

  3. Neatness counts!  Clean up when you finish painting.  Take your trash home. If you leave your spot messy than you are not eligible to be a winner and may not be able to participate in future window painting.

  4. Be creative and tasteful.  We do not want to paint something offensive, but want a festive addition to the merchant’s window.  Take pride in your work.

  5. Please be polite, kind and courteous to the merchant who has allowed you to paint.  Do not go inside the business to ask for supplies, food, etc.

  6. Each window will be rated 1-10 in the following areas: Neatness (painting/sill), Neatness (area), Creativity, Use of Many Colors, Overall Impression.

  7. The Colonel Town Staff and other volunteers will supervise the Halloween Window Painting Contest.  Names of people who are involved in any kind of disturbance will be reported to Colonel Town.  Severe discipline problems will result in suspension from Colonel Town programs for an extended period of time.

* Adjustments and discounts will be applied during checkout if applicable. *
